Design Concept
The design concept for Potters Mooring centred on translating their brand values into a modern digital experience. As a 17th-century, family-run guest house, the website needed to reflect heritage and trust while presenting the brand in a way that feels current, professional and competitive.
We have developed a clean, sleek web design that balances a corporate structure with subtle moments of personality. This approach allowed us to communicate reliability and quality, while still capturing the enjoyment and experience associated with a coastal stay. Every design decision was made to ensure the website feels aligned with who Potters Mooring are as a brand.
Alongside the visual direction, we carefully considered how the structure and flow of the site could reinforce the brand message. Clear hierarchy, generous spacing and straightforward navigation were used to create a sense of confidence and ease, mirroring the calm and welcoming experience guests can expect when staying at Potters Mooring. This strategic simplicity ensures the brand is communicated clearly, without distraction, while supporting the site’s primary goal of driving bookings.
Visual Identity / Art Direction
The visual identity was heavily influenced by Potters Mooring’s coastal location and guest experience. We built the art direction around a refined palette of soft blues and warm creams, reflecting the sea, shoreline and surrounding environment.
Imagery was used strategically to extend the brand rather than overpower it. Photography of the rooms and exterior reinforces quality and comfort, while local landscape imagery introduces natural green tones that bring the site to life. Together, these elements create an aesthetic that feels calm, inviting and authentic, while remaining polished and professional.
Potters Mooring is a 17th-century, family-run guest house, owned by Robert and Linda and located in Shaldon, Devon, overlooking the Teign Estuary. Open all year round, they offer a range of accommodation including single, double, twin and family rooms, all with en suite facilities.
The website was designed to clearly communicate what Potters Mooring offers, while reinforcing the character and warmth of a long-established, independent business in a sought-after coastal location.
Customer Experience
The website was designed with the end user at the centre, ensuring the experience reflects the ease and comfort of staying at Potters Mooring. A simple, intuitive layout guides visitors naturally through the site, with clear access to room information, menus, reviews and location details.
The primary focus of the user journey is the external booking system, which is clearly signposted throughout the site. By reducing friction and avoiding unnecessary features, the website makes it easy for customers to find what they need and confidently book a stay. This approach benefits both the customer and the business by creating a smooth, trustworthy and efficient booking experience.
From a customer perspective, the design also builds confidence before arrival. Clear imagery, consistent branding and transparent information help set expectations early, allowing guests to feel informed and reassured when making a booking. This strengthens trust in the brand and enhances the overall experience before, during and after the stay.
