Design Concept

Maison Carlton is a boutique hospitality brand defined by refined elegance, heritage architecture and contemporary luxury, and the website was designed to embody that experience from the very first interaction. The platform needed to do more than showcase rooms and amenities it had to transport visitors into the atmosphere of the hotel itself. From the outset, our goal was to create a digital presence that felt immersive, composed and quietly confident. The website functions as a carefully curated introduction to the brand, allowing users to experience the mood, tone and character of Maison Carlton before they even arrive in person. Every visual and structural decision was made to reflect the intimacy and exclusivity that define the stay.

At the core of the design concept was the idea of “quiet luxury” a restrained, timeless aesthetic that speaks through detail rather than excess. Rather than relying on overly bold graphics or heavy design elements, we embraced space, balance and refined typography to communicate sophistication. Generous margins, structured grids and measured pacing between sections create a sense of calm and confidence across every page. This approach mirrors the architectural elegance of the property itself, blending Georgian heritage with subtle art-deco references. The result is a digital experience that feels both rooted in tradition and entirely contemporary.

Specific bespoke elements were introduced to enhance the storytelling throughout the site. Full-screen hero imagery anchors each key page, immediately immersing the visitor in the Maison Carlton atmosphere. Editorial-style content blocks allow imagery and copy to work harmoniously, creating a narrative flow rather than a transactional layout. Subtle hover states, elegant transitions and refined call-to-action buttons were carefully considered to maintain a premium feel while ensuring usability remains intuitive. We also incorporated monogram-style iconography and art-deco inspired line detailing, subtly referencing the brand’s architectural identity and reinforcing cohesion across the platform.

Contrast plays a significant role in the overall composition. Dark, atmospheric interior imagery is balanced against lighter neutral sections, creating visual rhythm and depth as users move through the site. This interplay between moody and minimal spaces reflects the layered character of the hotel being  intimate yet grand, historic yet modern. Navigation was intentionally simplified to preserve clarity, ensuring that users feel guided rather than overwhelmed. Ultimately, the design concept results in a platform that feels cinematic, composed and elevated a digital extension of Maison Carlton’s refined world.

Visual Identity, Art Direction

The visual identity for Maison Carlton was crafted to evoke sophistication, heritage and understated opulence. The core colour palette of deep navy, warm champagne and soft ivory was selected to reflect both the physical interiors of the hotel and the emotional tone of the brand. The navy communicates depth, exclusivity and evening elegance, while the champagne introduces warmth and subtle luxury. Ivory provides balance and breathing space, ensuring the darker tones feel refined rather than heavy. Together, these colours create a harmonious contrast that enhances visual hierarchy while reinforcing the hotel’s premium positioning.

Typography was central to expressing the brand’s personality. The primary typeface, IvyPresto Display, was chosen for its high-contrast serif forms and editorial elegance. Its refined curves and sharp detailing echo the architectural lines and classic features of the property, lending a sense of timeless prestige to headings and key statements. Paired with a clean, understated supporting typeface, the typography achieves a balance between tradition and modern clarity. This pairing allows the site to feel sophisticated without sacrificing readability or digital functionality.

Photography and imagery direction focused on capturing atmosphere rather than simply documenting spaces. Rich textures, layered fabrics, ambient lighting and intimate lifestyle moments were prioritised to communicate emotion and depth. The imagery feels curated and cinematic, drawing attention to details that elevate the guest experience, from architectural mouldings to carefully styled interiors. This considered art direction ensures that every visual element contributes to storytelling, reinforcing the sense of quiet luxury that defines Maison Carlton.

My aim was to design a warm, fun and inviting brand, as well as something that is easy to navigate. It was also important for us to retain a sense of Jamaican identity, paying homage to Ramsay’s culture through the colours and imagery.
